After hitting the stage in 2003, Rob Brown has become one of Australia’s leading stand-up comedians. Rob draws his material from experiences growing up in a caravan park, working for over a decade as an officer in maximum security prisons, his time training security services in Iraq, his family life - children, and marriage, and more (it is questionable which is more dangerous).
Some may describe Rob’s comedy as edgy, direct while others call him “conventionally unconstrained,” all agree Rob is extremely funny and a welcome distinction to the stand-up scene. He will keep it clean if you ask him to. Otherwise, all bets are off. One charismatic Rob Brown quickly earns the right to go to those uncomfortable places and in his wickedly clever way, he leaves the audience overwhelmed with laughter and wanting more.
Rob has been lucky in his career starting out as the comedy writer for an Australian radio breakfast show and was then selected to host the popular morning show at RIVER 94.9 in Brisbane before deciding to leave and take the stage. Additionally, Rob does corporate events, NFL (National Football League) events and is a frequent guest at the State of Origin games lunches; he has appeared on the nationally televised “The Footy Show” produced by Nine networks.
Working regularly at premiere venues such as the Sit Down Comedy Club, the Brisbane Treasury Casino, Gold Coast Jupiter’s Casino, Gold Coast Arts Centre, Brisbane Convention Centre, the Sydney Comedy Store and more, Rob has shared the stage with other esteemed comics Steady Eddie, Will Anderson, Ahn Do, Bev Killick, Adam Hills, Arj Barker, Eddy Ifft, John Gordillo, Ian Moore, Kevin Precious, to name a handful.
In Edinburgh this year, Rob had his UK premiere of “What A Load of Kabul!” a captivating one-hour show of his journey to Afghanistan this summer, the unexpected twists that occurred. He performed his show to rave reviews and took the main stage at Edinburgh Comedy Festival’s “Late and Live” show. “He’s a charming, naturally funny man with a talent for storytelling. He got the biggest applause I have heard for any stand up at this year’s festival…a big, lovely bloke who made you feel a little bit better about the world.” Allthefestivals.com
“…A brave comedic choice, this will inspire you,” said Hairline.
That is what you get in Rob Brown. He is unapologetically brave. Perhaps it is the years working among the mentally unstable, Rob is poised to deal with the most hard-core of audiences in comedy.
Rob gives audiences a show that is fresh and he has more than enough to give. If you are looking for pure funny and honesty that resonates with both women and men, young and old, you have it in Rob Brown, one of the hardest-working men in and outside comedy.
Mel Brooks said, “Life literally abounds in comedy if you just look around you.” You do not want to miss Rob Brown’s clever and satirical, outside-the-box outlook on life. You may not want to see him in a dark alley, but you will want to see him in a dimly lit room. It won’t be long before Rob Brown is known throughout America entertaining audiences who are ready for something new, distinct, and “unconventional.”
