HILARIOUS: Special preview of The Comedy Club at Zouk recently featured (from left) Johnson, Atherton and Netto

FANS of standup comedy get ready.

Beginning next month, The Comedy Club will feature a host of international and local comedy acts at popular entertainment hotspot Zouk.

If future shows are anything like the special preview held at the cosy, Velvet Underground, KL-ites are in for rib-tickling comedy guaranteed to chase any blues away.

The Comedy Club KL aims to add a modern urban flavour, by presenting international and local talents who will provide audiences with a slice of intelligent entertainment.

Aussie Jonathan Atherton is one comedian you do not want to miss. His phenomenal language skills and
appreciation for culture packed in a bag of insightful stories, will entertain even those with the smallest sense of humour.

The versatile actor, award-winning photographer and host of Lonely Planet, got guests at Velvet roaring with laughter with a myriad of accents - including Indian, Indonesian and Irish.

"Standup comedy is about enunciating dark thoughts we have as human beings," said Atherton.

He believes that standup comedy enables everyone, no matter what race, religion or political affiliation, to get together and celebrate.

American Terry Johnson, or the real TJ, armed with a comedic wit and a passion to make people laugh, had audiences cracking up with his own Singapore stories, the city he now calls home.

Homegrown comedian Andrew Netto, discovered by local funnyman Harith Iskandar gave the multi-ethnic audience many laughs with his very own take on things Malaysian.

Currently pursuing a degree in Mass Communication, Netto has performed in numerous ‘live' shows in Malaysia and Brunei and has no qualms about wearing a pink jumpsuit or a saree just to get people to laugh.

Together the three made the preview an evening of pure entertainment and the audience craving for more. The Comedy Club KL will bring in comedians from the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand for two shows a month from July onwards.

Shows will start at 8.30pm. For more information about show dates, line-ups and The Comedy Club, visit thecomedyclubkl.com.
